Making
VAN TOL is produced in Italy.
Every piece begins with us as a drawing on paper, and only once the line holds does the design travel to Italy.
We make nothing for stock. A piece from the Exclusive Atelier is made after somebody has decided on it, and for every design it is settled from the outset how many pieces of it will ever exist. Across the present designs that is between one and eight, depending on how demanding the setting is, and the number is stated on every piece.
Once that number is reached we take the design out of the programme and do not draw a second version of it. There is an uncomfortable side to this that we accept: whoever decides too late will not get the piece, and we cannot make it again.
In return, everybody wearing one knows how many others exist.
